When you implement a video surveillance system, choosing your security cameras is only one of the steps you’ll need to take. You’ll also need to select video management software (VMS) that runs behind those cameras and supports all the functions you need. We shared a list of the best security cameras for business, and now we want to give you a broader picture of the video surveillance market and video management software.
Integrated vs. separated video systems #
Before we move on to looking at the best video management software, it is crucial to understand the value of having an integrated solution compared with separated cameras and video management software.
Piecing together cameras and video management software does offer a degree of flexibility because you can use cameras that you already own. However, it’s best not to take issues with compatibility and a lack of scalability lightly. If the system isn’t integrated, you’ll need some degree of technical knowledge to pair the cameras and VMS and an even greater level of skill to maintain the pairing bug-free.
An integrated hardware and software solution comes ready to use out-of-the-box, saving you frustration from the first stages of the process. You're also spared further aggravation in the long term as an integrated system doesn’t require any compatibility-related maintenance. Moreover, such solutions tend to come with frequent software updates and new feature rollouts that may benefit you over time.
Integrated solutions also often pair very well with other security-related software solutions, such as access control or visitor management. We would recommend you choose this type of solution if your budget allows it, but a separated solution will get the job done if an integrated system isn’t an option.
The video surveillance market #
In 2025, the video surveillance market was valued at $56.11 billion with projections reaching $88.06 billion by 2031 (CAGR 7.8%).
After a flat 2024, when global spending dipped slightly by 0.3% due to election cycles and delayed public-sector security budgets, demand has picked up in 2025. The competitive landscape is varied, and while Asian manufacturers still dominate, some Western brands have risen to the top of global manufacturers.
After the National Defense Authorization Act banned the US government from purchasing video surveillance equipment by Hikvision and Dahua a few years back, there was an increase in revenue for brands based outside of China.
Some of the popular market players in 2025 include:
- Genetec
- Axis Communications
- Bosch Security Systems
- Cisco Systems
- Verkada
- Hanwha Vision (Hanwha Techwin)
- Avigilon (Motorola Solutions)
- Vivotek
- Honeywell Security
On the industry side, the commercial segment is the largest vertical and continues to lead global adoption. It is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.6%. The infrastructure segment is also projected to grow fast in the following years. Other high-growth verticals include healthcare, manufacturing, and government.
Trends in the market #
After a market boom, AI has passed from an emerging feature to a core part of modern video surveillance. In 2025, AI-driven systems account for roughly a third of new deployments (the segment itself is valued at around 7.57 billion). Right now, most new enterprise deployments include on-camera or edge AI processing.
Cloud-based video platforms are also becoming the norm. With annual growth around 16%, cloud VMS is expanding faster than any other trend. Organizations are less and less likely to consider anything other than cloud or hybrid models.
The 2026 trends point to the same direction: a stronger move toward edge AI, continued growth in cloud systems, wider adoption of multi-sensor cameras and tighter cybersecurity requirements.

Meraki also integrates with many solutions, including Kisi, to create a comprehensive security solution for your office or studio that includes access control and video surveillance.
Positive reviews: I wouldn’t hesitate to get more as the need arises. I can’t think of a situation where they wouldn’t work well. The motion detection and activity zones work great. They can also work with the various sensors Meraki offers, making them more of a smart camera. Trustradius
Negative reviews: Video access through Cisco Meraki MV has some room for improvement. Trustradius
Cisco Meraki pricing
The Meraki cameras come in various forms and prices. On the market, you can find the cheaper cameras starting from $500 circa and these can go up to $1000 per camera. To this price, the software license price must be added and that in itself can be around $1000, however, this depends on the time span of the license and the number of cameras. Cisco Meraki offers a free product evaluation and custom pricing.
Rhombus Systems
Similar to Meraki, Rhombus offers a comprehensive security solution that’s easy to install and connects all your cameras together through the cloud. In addition to native remote access and cloud technology, Rhombus has many innovative features, including face recognition and license plate recognition. Like Meraki, they offer environmental sensors as well as cameras.
Rhombus has the advantage of integrating with multiple solutions, including Kisi, to create a complete security infrastructure for your company. This will turn your office into a secure space with cutting-edge technology.
Positive reviews: Prior to Rhombus, we used an inhouse DVR system that was complicated and mangement could view (when onsite) BUT it often required IT intervention to help find video and save it off if necessary. Since going to Rhombus, management loves its simplcity as well as it "from anywhere" availablity as wel as their ability to quickly find footage and share or store it. We all use this product frequently for not only security, but we also use it for safetly and IT monitoring as we have a device in our server room. G2 Crowd
Negative reviews: Licenses can get pricey so it’s definitely something to inform your management team about. The benefit is not having to deal with on-site hardware and the constant maintenance costs. Having a cloud-based system is a tremendous asset. Sometimes we run into connectivity issues where we lose coverage because the camera lost connection. G2 Crowd

Verkada has since invested heavily to strengthen its security posture, achieving rigorous certifications like SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO/IEC 27701 and implementing granular Audit Logs for user activity.
Positive reviews: Their surveillance cameras and the interface are fantastic. We purchased the cameras after looking at a few options and were very pleased with the purchase process, ease of installation, and the Verkada Command interface for the cameras. G2 Crowd
Negative reviews: Their reporting is awful. Getting audit logs, filtering users by division, etc. are all either extremely cumbersome or just not possible at all. For a security company, these are must haves. G2 Crowd

Integrating video surveillance with access control #
No matter what video cameras and software you choose, combining them with access control offers a new level of safety and security for your property. This kind of integration allows you to not only monitor activity in and around your buildings but also grant and revoke access to employees, guests, visitors, and contractors.
Other things you can do by integrating your cameras with access control include:
- Review footage for access events, such as attempted forced entry
- Analyze employee behaviors, such as attendance
- Flag vulnerabilities that could result in security breaches, such as unauthorized visitor access
- Prevent criminal activity, such as vandalism and break-ins
Kisi can be integrated with many of the top video security providers, including Rhombus, Cisco Meraki, and Eagle Eye Networks for a comprehensive video surveillance solution.
How to choose the best solution for your business #
Your choice of video management software can have long-lasting effects on the safety and security of your business. If you’re primarily concerned about short-term issues, such as for a few months, price might be a primary concern. However, if you’re looking for a hassle-free solution that will serve your office for years to come, make sure you build a security system that is as self-sufficient as possible.
These are some key aspects to evaluate when it comes to security camera software:
- Analytics and reporting
- Cloud storage capacity
- Ease of deployment
- Onboarding and support
- Integration with access control

If you’re unsure which security camera to choose, check out this comparison of the top 10 brands for business-grade security cameras.
