FAQ

  • Kisi enables you to reuse a wide range of third-party NFC and RFID credentials. Kisi supports NFC cards, including MIFARE, NTAG, and JCOP, and a range of RFID credentials, including various HID cards. Check out our compatibility guide for more details. The Kisi team is constantly working on adding new third-party credentials. Contact our team to check if the credentials you are already using are compatible, even if they’re not on the list.

  • No. You can integrate Kisi with your legacy readers and make a cost-effective migration to the cloud while keeping your current readers and credentials. If you want to increase security and convenience for your users, consider replacing your readers so users can use modern mobile access methods, like MotionSense or badges in Apple Wallet. You can also lose the cards and fobs and opt for mobile access only with the Kisi mobile app without replacing your legacy readers.

  • Yes. You can easily connect the Kisi Controller Pro 2 with the building’s legacy access control system without any operation disruptions. Your landlord will still get insights about the building entries, and you get to manage all your entry points from the Kisi interface while using the same cards or fobs to access your spaces. No need for different sets of credentials.

  • It depends on the type of credentials you want to import. You can enable users to unlock doors with the Kisi app by assigning them to groups and enabling the right access permissions. Some of the more advanced mobile access methods require enabling the reader permissions as well. Kisi Passes and 3rd party NFC credentials need to be assigned individually, while 3rd party RFID credentials can be imported in bulk. Explore our extensive product documentation for more details.

  • No, you can pick the right combination for your needs. Most companies enable all mobile access methods for enhanced user convenience and choose temporary access credentials for visitor management. Some companies migrating to the cloud are deciding to keep their legacy badges while enabling mobile access for better flexibility. Contact our team if you need help choosing the right credential mix for your company.

  • Yes, Kisi ensures uninterrupted access with fully encrypted and authenticated offline support for physical and mobile credentials, guaranteeing access even without an internet connection. Kisi readers can cache access rights offline for up to 36 hours and can also process authenticated unlock requests from the user’s phone as a failsafe. If you have a third-party reader, you can rely on Kisi controllers that cache access rights for offline use based on recent activity, enabling offline access with physical credentials before contacting the legacy controller for unlock requests.
